Cookie policy

What cookies we use, why, and how to control them. Last updated: September 2026.

What this covers

How whatdotheyown.com uses cookies and similar browser storage (together, "cookies"). It complements our privacy policy and follows the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR. Some cookies are essential for the site to work; the rest only run if you agree.

Strictly necessary

Always on, because the site can't work without them: keeping you signed in, signing and rate-limiting requests, protecting the site from bots, and remembering your cookie choice (the "wdto-consent" cookie). Under PECR we don't need your consent for these.

Analytics

Only set after you choose Accept. We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, to see which pages and features are used and where things break, including session replay with typed text masked. If you're signed in, these events are linked to your account so we can understand how the product is used. You can switch analytics off at any time.

Third parties

Some necessary cookies come from services we rely on: our sign-in provider (Supabase), our payments provider (Stripe, on its own checkout and billing pages) and our hosting and bot-protection layer (Vercel). Each operates under its own privacy and cookie policies.

Changing your choice

Use "Cookie settings" in the site footer to reopen the panel, or clear the "wdto-consent" cookie in your browser. Every browser also lets you block or delete cookies; blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop sign-in from working.
